The Burlington Car Club is planning an October trip to the Indy Car Museum on our way to Newport, IN.

Are there any race shops and covered bridges or other areas of special interest that we should consider including on our journey?

Nate,

This is in fact a very fun spot to ride to (especially with the back roads it takes to get there) but just be aware if you go on this trip to try and do it late at night and watch for police as you will without doubt be arrested for trespassing. The county and state police put a strict enforcement on this law here at the tunnel due to the amount of injuries and deaths that have resulted from incompetent drunks that have played around in the tunnel while a train came through. The real rush comes from tucking tight inside one of the cubby holes while a train passes through as the suction within the tunnel becomes quite powerful.

If you have any more questions about the area feel free to contact me:

[...] I know it’s not Halloween yet, but I love a good haunt. Some biker buddies told me about the Tunnelton Tunnel. The tunnel, built in 1857 on a CSX Railroad line, is over a mile long (pitch black, you’ll need a flashlight). It is located approximately three miles southeast of Tunnelton on River Road. Tunnelton is about 45 minutes from Brownstown - see Change of Color blog. [...]

As Mario mentioned above, the Hoosier Hooligans are an Indiana Ducati owners club, with membership throughout the state. We have a large concentration of membership in the northern part of the state and regularly have group rides in southern Michigan and northern Indiana.

I used to live down there and wish I still did but the road I lived on was an excellant bike road with 133 turns in 15 miles it's US150 from Shoals to West Baden. Your route touches part of it just not enough it. A lot of Harleys do it on weekends but it is sport bike heaven in the hills of the Hoosier National Forest

Northern Indiana Lakes Ride? Somehow you missed Northern Indiana and the lakes. Steuben County is home to 101 lakes with routes that would take you through some of the most scenic lake country in the State, all within minutes of two interstates. Check it out!
